Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep shock and sadness over the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba by terrorists, sharply criticizing the military leadership for failing to clearly explain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Initial official statements had denied the general’s death, adding to public confusion.
Atiku described the loss as “one death too many” and a sign of a troubling terrorist resurgence that Nigeria cannot afford.
He attributed the security failures to a lack of political leadership, accusing President Bola Tinubu of prioritizing the decimation of the opposition over his crucial role as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
“The security of the lives of our people is your primary responsibility,” Atiku said directly to the president, urging him to either accept help or resign if unable to fulfill that duty.
He called for a robust military response, proposing the occupation of Borno State and other areas affected by insurgency and banditry until they are secured.
Atiku also expressed sympathy for the Nigerian Armed Forces, the family of Brig. Gen. Musa Uba, and all Nigerians affected by the security crisis.
“May this dark period pass over us as a nation, sooner than later,” he concluded, appealing for unity and resilience in facing the country’s security challenges.
