The Araba of Ibadanland, Araba Ifalere Odegbemi Odegbola II, has pledged to continue supporting and promoting educational development in Oyo State, emphasizing the importance of merging Western education with indigenous cultural values.
Speaking at the End-of-Year party for Isese Light Kiddies Nursery and Primary School in Omi-Adio, Ibadan — the school he founded — Araba Odegbola highlighted the school’s mission to foster educational growth while preserving Yoruba traditional beliefs.
“The establishment of the first Isese school in Ibadan is no doubt a significant cultural revival. We aim to contribute to the educational development of the state while promoting Yoruba traditional beliefs, which have faced challenges from others,” he said.
Araba, who is also the Olu-Isese of Ibadanland, stressed the need for children to reconnect with their indigenous roots.
He said education in traditional religion is vital for cultural identity but assured that the school would respect all faiths equally.
“Like any standard school, we will provide a comprehensive curriculum for our pupils. Those from Isese backgrounds will learn Yoruba mythology and ethical teachings to become better leaders,” he added.
The event, held on the school premises in Omi-Adio, Ido Local Government Area, featured awards for outstanding students and a variety of Yoruba cultural activities, including traditional drumming, dance performances, poetry recitals, storytelling, and a fashion parade showcasing traditional attire.
Araba Adewale Osho, the Araba of Iwaro Oka, Akoko, who was the chairman of the day, commended Araba Odegbola for his visionary leadership and generosity toward educational and cultural development.
Araba Osho also made a generous donation to the school and promised continued assistance to ensure its growth and sustainability.
In a show of international solidarity, eminent Isese religion worshippers from the United States donated books and other writing materials to support the pupils of the school, further boosting educational resources.
Araba Odegbola also urged parents to take advantage of the affordable school fees and the new school bus to bring their wards to the school for the next session.
He also appealed to the Chairman of Ido Local Government to urgently repair the deteriorating Aba Araba to Alakaso road in the area.
The Araba of Ibadanland also highlighted the importance of dialogue among traditionalists, Christians, and Muslims to promote mutual respect and harmonious coexistence in Ibadan.
“I hope this school inspires similar initiatives from Isese believers across other regions,” he said.
