Maj. Gen. Kevin Aligbe, commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) of the Nigerian Army, says officers and men of the force will finish the fight against insecurity before returning to the barracks.
Mr Aligbe, who was the Examination President of the 2024 Captain to Major Practical Promotion Examination (CMPPE), said this during the cocktail party in honour of the candidates on Thursday night in Akure.
Over 200 captains were drawn from different formations and units across the country for the exercise.
Mr Aligbe, who applauded the participants for their conduct during the examination, said there was a higher task before them to bring peace to the country.
He said that the outcome of the examination would qualify them for selection to attend the Junior Staff Course at Jaji or any of the subscribed staff colleges overseas.
“Having concluded this exercise much the same way you started, it suggests that there was discipline. It suggests that you were prepared. It suggests you are ready for the higher tasks you will be undertaking.
“Remember that someday one of you will be standing here given the same remarks as commander TRADOC. But before then, we still have challenges of insecurity manifesting in various forms. We must finish this fight so that we can return to the barracks and face some other things,” he said.
The TRADOC commander said that the officers could be called back to the field in support of either regional or any global effort toward bringing peace to the continent or any other place in the world.
He reiterated his confidence that the army would be in good hands with the coming of age of the junior officers and charged them always to have the country in mind.
Maj. Gen. Obinna Onubogu, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division’s chief host, appreciated the Army Headquarters for finding the division worthy of the 2024 CMPPE.
Mr Onubogu appreciated the officers for their good conduct during the examination period.
“I know that the examination is concluded, but I want to urge the candidates to remain calm and hope for the best,” he said.
