The traditional ruler of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan, has passed away at the age of 90, officials confirmed Monday.
Oba Olakulehin died in the early hours of July 7, 2025, shortly after marking his 90th birthday on July 5.
His reign began in July 2024, following the death of his predecessor, Oba Moshood Lekan Balogun.
Known for his dedication to preserving Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage and promoting peace among its diverse communities, Oba Olakulehin’s leadership, though brief, was impactful. He was widely respected for his humility and commitment to the welfare of his people.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State paid tribute to the late monarch, describing him as “a unifying figure and a custodian of Ibadan’s traditions.”
The Olubadan-in-Council is expected to announce funeral arrangements soon, as the city prepares to bid farewell to one of its most esteemed traditional rulers.
